Explore Protesters Falls

Explore Byron Bay’s Protestor Falls trip is at the centre of Nightcap National Park. It has a special relationship to Several Aboriginal communities that inhabited the region and have a spiritual connection to the land, including the Nganduwal people, Galibal, Githabul and Widjabal speaking peoples. The Widjabal people lived at Nightcap Range for at least 4000 years. The region is the base for the Bundjalung nation. Historically the park provides rock shelters for the Aboriginal people. The park’s landscapes, plants and animals feature prominently in Aboriginal culture and dreaming stories and there are sacred sites of cultural significance in the area.

Explore Byron Bay provides exceptional service to the stunning Protesters Falls located around 1hr 15mins from Byron Bay, in Nightcap National park. The waterfall itself was named after successful protests in the 1970’s to save the surrounding subtropical rainforest which is now World Heritage listed and known as Nightcap National Park. Our guests experience this incredible nature while taking a moderate 1.4km (return) self-guided walk to the natural pool at the base of the falls (sorry, swimming is not allowed). Guests often see an abundance of wildlife, including the yellow tailed black cockatoo, kookaburra, satin bowerbird, lace monitor and the occasional pademelon, to name a few. We provide our guests with a packed lunch (Sandwich, fruit and water) and refreshments (tea, coffee and biscuits). We highly recommend that guests bring a backpack with appropriate clothing, footwear, waterbottle, hat and sunscreen. Explore Byron Bay provides a Pick-up and Drop-off services for guests within 6km of Byron Bay CBD.

Have a look at this video below (courtesy of National Parks) that show us not only is Protestor Falls of significance to the Indigenous people, but also is a landmark for environmentalism in Australia. It is just a waterfall or a rain forest, as it embodies alot of history and culture from all Australians about environmental vs economic values.
